OPENPTO / PARTNERSHIP

As your clients enter new markets, help their brand protection keep pace.

01

Three situations worth discussing early.

Situation What the client may ask What we clarify first
Entering a new market “The company is established. What should we do about the brand?” Target markets, actual goods and services, proposed words or artwork, and the intended applicant.
Maintaining existing trademarks “Who can coordinate renewals, name changes or new activities?” Existing registrations, recorded ownership, required changes and any timing requirements already known to the client.
Receiving an official or third-party letter “What does this document mean, and what comes next?” The complete document, case reference, date received and the client’s objective, before discussing the appropriate scope of work.

You do not need to tell a client that an application will succeed. Getting the question to the right professional early is more useful than giving an answer that has not been checked.

02

From preparing an application to maintaining a portfolio.

Preparing the information

We clarify the brand, artwork, proposed owner, markets and actual business activities, then identify matters that need further review. The quotation will specify whether searches or a registrability assessment form part of the engagement.

Applications and filing coordination

Applications are arranged around the agreed markets and goods or services. Where several jurisdictions are involved, we explain the responsible entities, information requirements and fee components for each part.

Examination and follow-up work

Where an official communication or request for information is received, the relevant professional reviews it and explains the next step. Additional procedures, disputes and work outside the original scope are discussed before further charges are incurred.

Renewals, changes and portfolio organisation

We help organise work arising from recorded ownership details, renewals and changes in the client’s business. A single contact point supports communication across markets, while each matter retains its own agreed scope.

Scope note: The work we can undertake, responsible entities, professionals and fees are confirmed before engagement. This overview is not a registrability assessment of any particular mark.

03

Keep the next step clear for clients and partners.

  1. Outline the need. Start with the business context, target markets and the issue to address, rather than a large bundle of unrelated material.
  2. Agree the quotation and engagement. OpenPTO discusses scope with the client and identifies professional fees, official fees and other applicable costs separately. The client decides whether to proceed.
  3. Prepare the information and carry out the work. We gather the required material and follow the agreed plan, explaining any decision or further information needed from the client.
  4. Provide updates and follow-up support. The client receives the agreed deliverables. Updates to the referring partner remain within the client’s permission and the cooperation arrangement.

Supporting copy: Introducing a need does not accept a quotation or create an engagement. The first step can be a simple email.

04

Five details make an initial conversation more useful.

  • The brand or artwork: The proposed words, logo and any different versions.
  • Target markets: The countries or regions where the client trades or plans to trade.
  • Goods and services: A plain-language description of what the client actually sells or provides.
  • The intended applicant: The entity expected to own the trademark, or a note that this remains undecided.
  • Existing circumstances: Any applications, registrations, official correspondence or known timing requirements.

Supporting copy: An outline is enough for the first enquiry. Provide personal information, complete case files or other sensitive material only after obtaining the client’s permission and agreeing how to share it.

05

Clarify the scope before deciding to proceed.

Does a client need to apply in all six jurisdictions?

No. We discuss the markets relevant to the client’s business. The six-jurisdiction network describes our service coverage, not a compulsory package.

Can you provide a fixed quotation?

The team will explain the quotation after confirming the mark, goods or services, markets and required work. A generic website figure should not replace a matter-specific quotation.

Does the partner need to complete the full application information?

No. The partner can introduce the need and confirm permission to make contact. The team then works with the client on the detailed information.

What updates can the partner receive?

Only those permitted by the client and covered by the cooperation arrangement. A referral does not automatically provide access to the entire client file or internal working material.

Closing heading: A client’s brand question can start here.

Tell us about your firm, the target market and the issue. We can then clarify the appropriate next step together.
